project idea

Ive decided that my project will be on personality in fashion, and In some photos I want to focus on the contrast of personality by using fashion. The main inspiration for my project will be Julien Berman who is a fashion photographer based in LA who specifically works with famous brands such as odd future and has worked with the brands owner and famous rapper 'Tyler the creator'.

Berman has a specific style to his photos that i really like and would like to try and re create in my final images, I like how he uses the contrast of colours and has a nice complementing background and the style of his photos is something id like to re create.

Below is a recreation i have done of Berman's work, I wanted to do a similar shoot, so I set up a small studio in my house and got some photos done. In terms of composition I stuck to the rule of thirds by keeping the subject central, I also have edited the photo into black and white so the clothes on the subject match with the background. The photo was shot on a dslr with iso of 6400 and an stop of f/22, I liked how these photos came out, however I think next time I will use brighter and colours with more patterns to make the photos more attractive.

I also feel that fashion is a big part in todays society in terms of how its changing especially how it is advertised by photography and I feel it is something I can portray quite well in terms of linking fashion to identity.

Studium: broad sense of an image: composure, lighting, aesthetics. Liking, not loving
Punctum: small detail about picture the you would not naturally expect. Surprise, shock, element. the one thing that actually make the photo.
So this is a concept I would like to incorporate into my final images, especially the Punctum as I feel this is what grabs peoples attention to the photos.
